Which Country has the Fastest Internet Connection Speed?

According to the (CWA) Communications Workers of America, Japan, South Korea, Sweden and the Netherlands have faster downloads speeds than the United States.

US download speed slightly improved according to tests conducted by speedmatters.org.  With the US at 20th in broadband penetration, other countries have download speeds way much faster.

Almost unlimited knowledge that fits in a Pocket!

Almost unlimited knowledge?  No…it’s not magic, but thanks to the iPhone it’s pretty close.  With Wikipedia launching an app for the iPhone, all your questions can almost pretty much be answered from your iPhone.  Like what year did Facebook start?  Or what year did Columbus sail the ocean blue?  1492…I think…hold on, let me check the iPhone.

MS Can’t Sell MS Word? What!?

Microsoft was ordered by a judge to stop selling Word.  The ruling was due to a patent infringement regarding Word’s capabilities to read .XML.  To read more about the article, visit CNet.

Network Solutions: Launches New Store Front and Security Breach

With the new launch of their updated store front.  Netsol is also plagued by a security breach.  Netsol potentially exposes 600,0000 people’s credit card information due to their 4,343 E-Commerce merchant stores’ being breached from March 12th – June 6th of this year.

Kindle Fail!

kindleSo a 17 year old kid is suing Amazon for deleting his book.  Amazon didn’t inform their customers that they were deleting some pirated book copies.  The kid was taking summer classes and had taken notes which referenced pages in the e-book copy of Orwell’s “1984.”  When the file was deleted, his notes were pretty much useless since it could not reference the non-existent pages.

Bing and Yahoo Search Joins Forces

As the competition for search dominance heats up.  Microsoft and Yahoo team up to increase the visibility of their search products.  Bing and Yahoo search will team up to get some ground and on the search engine playing field.

Microsoft has spent millions on their “Decision Engine” campaigns.  With Yahoo Search and Bing together, do they have any chance to compete with Google?

Carry Movies in Your Pocket!

As technology evolves, the capacity of memory storage continues to improve.  With insane storage capabilities becoming larger and more affordable, it only makes sense that information can now be also distributed much faster.1

With USB thumbdrives, we have been able to copy and distribute files…(work files, images, music)…you name it.  So why not sell movies on it?  This is where Sonic Solutions steps in, the company that operates Roxio CinemaNow will selling movies on USB thumbdrives.

We’ll see how the pricing goes…and lets hope that people accept the new type of movie storage experience.  This is great news that as technology continues to improve, we can now not only enjoy long movies from storage that fits in the palm of our hands but also is great for the environment (less waste).

Plans for Google Chrome OS

Chrome + Linux = Google Chrome OS.  With the announcement of Google’s new operating system, the computer world’s been wondering how Apple and Microsoft will handle the new kid on the block (well not so new).  Google has been slow shifting weight to go head to head in the operating system depart ment and with the Android phone, netbooks to desktops…Google is ready to strut their stuff.

So when being compared to Windows, Google presents their OS as a platform “for people who live on the web.”  So time will tell what type of market will open up to using Google’s OS.  With so much competition out there these days, the main concern is usability and finding the right niche.  A lot of people are bombarded with new apps, new features…etc.  At the end of the day it’s open season right now, let’s see who can create an OS darling that everyone will love.

Microsoft Gazzelle Browser

Microsoft introduces Gazelle a new multi-principal OS.

According to Microsoft Researcher Helen Wang:  “I think Gazelle marks a significant departure from all previous browsers, including Chrome and IE 8.”
